BirdSong Coffee Uganda Bukyabo Runners Espresso whole bean coffee

Coffee beans from Uganda for preparing espresso with a medium to fuller body, featuring notes of roasted almonds, raisins, and a delicate fruity acidity reminiscent of apple purée. Variety: Nyasaland, SL14, SL28. Location: Eastern Uganda, Mt. Elgon. Altitude: 1800–2000 meters above sea level. Processing: washed (fermented in water tanks for 40 hours). We named this blend from the microlots of The Coffee Gardens washing station in honor of these remarkable coffee carriers. Bukyabo is the name of the local parish. The coffee comes from eastern Uganda, from an area bordering Mt. Elgon National Park. It is grown by small farmers on the slopes and peaks of the local table mountains. Transporting the coffee to the processing station is challenging – only unpaved roads lead to the villages, which become nearly impassable during the rainy season. The so-called "Runners" play a key role in logistics – men and women who carry freshly picked coffee cherries in bags weighing up to 50 kg on their heads! On narrow, steep, and slippery paths, they overcome an elevation gain of 600 meters over a distance of just 2 km.
