Selecting coffee beans can be overwhelming. You see dozens of packages with a plethora of information that may not be immediately clear on how to read. And that feeling when the coffee doesn't meet our taste expectations? We all know it! Let's go through what you can actually find on a coffee package and how to determine if it's the right one for you. Shall we?

We discussed how to properly read coffee packaging and select quality beans with Tereza Bala, a barista and expert from the Czech specialty coffee roastery Doubleshot

Espresso and the others

Coffee preparation is divided into two main methods. The most well-known are coffees based on espresso – whether it's espresso itself, cappuccino, latte, or even flat white. For such coffee, you need a machine that prepares espresso using strong water pressure that passes through the coffee.

Espresso is prepared from 7-9 grams of coffee. (For dark roast, the lower weight is generally used, for light roast the higher, but it also depends on the size of the portafilter basket).

The second category is the so-called alternative coffee preparations. And there, simply everything except espresso falls. You will surely know, for example, french press, moka pot, popular is also filtered coffee V60 or even aeropress.
