About the winery
Mr. Piewald’s vineyards stretch across the Wachau region near the town of Spitz, covering 4.5 hectares, with an average vine age of 30 years. All vineyards are tended by hand and are located on terraces at an altitude of approximately 400–600 m above sea level. The soil is highly mineral, containing granite and gneiss, which is why the wines are so spicy and enticing in expression. The designation Federspiel translates as falconry, which is very popular in Wachau, and denotes the medium category of wines.
