Peel the onion, chop it into cubes, and sauté in lard. Then add the diced smoked meat, paprika, salt, pepper, bay leaf, and simmer. Add sauerkraut and water or broth. Bring to a boil and cook for 30 minutes until the sauerkraut softens.

Finally, stir in the cream. When serving, garnish the soup with a spoonful of sour cream.
