INGREDIENTS
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cardamom pods (lightly crushed)
- 4 cloves
- 1 slice of fresh ginger
- 2 teaspoons of loose black tea (or 2 tea bags)
- 300 ml of whole milk (or plant-based milk as preferred)
- 2 tablespoons of sugar or honey (to taste)
- A pinch of ground cinnamon for garnish (optional)
- A pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
- 1After 5 minutes, add black tea (either loose or bags) to the pot with the spices. Let the tea steep in the spiced water for another 3–5 minutes, depending on how strong you prefer your tea.
- 2Once the tea is strong enough, add 300 ml of milk and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Heat the milk but do not let it boil over.
- 3Add sugar or honey to taste and stir well to dissolve the sweetener.
- 4If you like a frothy chai latte, use a whisk or milk frother to create a light foam directly in the pot.
- 5Pour the mixture through a strainer into a cup to remove the spices and tea bags. If you made foam, pour it on top.
- 6You can garnish the chai latte with a pinch of ground cinnamon or nutmeg to taste.
- 7In a small pot, bring 300 ml of water to a boil. Add a cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves, and a slice of ginger. Let it simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes to fully infuse the spices.
