INGREDIENTS
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cardamom pods (lightly crushed)
- 4 cloves
- 1 slice fresh ginger
- 2 teaspoons loose-leaf black tea (or 2 tea bags)
- 300 ml full-fat milk (or plant-based milk according to preference)
- 2 tablespoons sugar or honey (to taste)
- Pinch of ground cinnamon for garnish (optional)
- Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
- 1After 5 minutes, add the black tea (either loose-leaf or tea bags) to the saucepan with the spices. Let the tea steep in the spiced water for another 3–5 minutes, depending on how strong you prefer your tea.
- 2Once the tea is strong enough, add 300 ml of milk and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Heat the milk, but do not let it boil over.
- 3Add sugar or honey to taste and stir well to dissolve the sweetener.
- 4If you like foamy chai latte, use a whisk or milk frother to create a fine foam directly in the saucepan.
- 5Pour the mixture through a sieve into a mug to remove the spices and tea bags. If you've prepared foam, pour it on top.
- 6You can garnish the chai latte with a pinch of ground cinnamon or nutmeg to taste.
- 7Bring 300 ml of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves, and a slice of ginger. Let it simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to fully infuse.
