INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cardamom pods (lightly crushed)
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 slice fresh ginger
  • 2 teaspoons loose-leaf black tea (or 2 tea bags)
  • 300 ml full-fat milk (or plant-based milk according to preference)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey (to taste)
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon for garnish (optional)
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

    After 5 minutes, add the black tea (either loose-leaf or tea bags) to the saucepan with the spices. Let the tea steep in the spiced water for another 3–5 minutes, depending on how strong you prefer your tea.

    Once the tea is strong enough, add 300 ml of milk and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Heat the milk, but do not let it boil over.

    Add sugar or honey to taste and stir well to dissolve the sweetener.

    If you like foamy chai latte, use a whisk or milk frother to create a fine foam directly in the saucepan.

    Pour the mixture through a sieve into a mug to remove the spices and tea bags. If you've prepared foam, pour it on top.

    You can garnish the chai latte with a pinch of ground cinnamon or nutmeg to taste.

    Bring 300 ml of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves, and a slice of ginger. Let it simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to fully infuse.
