INGREDIENTS
- 500 g semi-coarse flour
- 250 g butter
- 150 g Gruyère cheese
- 100 ml milk
- 1 egg + 1 egg for brushing
- 10 g dried yeast
- Teaspoon of salt
YOU WILL ALSO NEED
- Baking paper
INSTRUCTIONS
- 1Melt the milk and butter together in a saucepan and let cool slightly. Grate the cheese on a fine grater. Sift the flour, add yeast, egg, salt, cheese, and the cooled milk with butter. Knead into a denser dough. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let rise for one hour in a warm place.
- 2Divide the risen dough into 2 equal parts, and from each, roll out a cylinder with a diameter of 3 cm. Divide each cylinder into 25 equally sized pieces.
- 3Using your hands on a work surface, roll each piece into a stick about 10 cm long. Place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
- 4Whisk the egg and brush it over the sticks. You can sprinkle them with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or caraway seeds. Let them rise for another 30 minutes on the baking sheet.
- 5Bake for about 20 minutes in an oven preheated to 175°C with a fan. After baking, let them cool on the baking sheet.
