Balvenie 12 Double Wood is a single malt whisky from the Balvenie distillery, located in the town of Dufftown in the Speyside region of Scotland. The distillery is very traditional and still operates its own malting floor. The local master blender, David Stewart, is one of the longest-serving individuals in the whisky industry and is considered a pioneer in the field of blending different casks. Balvenie 12 Double Wood, as the name of the whisky suggests, contains malt whiskies that have matured for a minimum of 12 years in both bourbon and sherry casks (two types of casks - hence "double wood"). The result is a wonderfully full whisky proudly representing Speyside. Upon nosing, you are greeted with ripe fruit, honey, spices, and oak tones. The taste unleashes a whirlwind of fruit jam with cinnamon, nuts, orange peel, oak tones, and sherry dryness.
