19 Crimes
Are you one of those who enjoy good wine and gritty stories? Then the 19 Crimes wine collection was tailor-made for you. Just point your phone at them – the faces of the people on their labels will come to life and tell you their dark stories that actually happened. In the 17th and 18th centuries, approximately 162,000 men and women were transported from the United Kingdom to Australia, having been convicted and exiled from the country for one of 19 crimes. 19 Crimes wines are a reminder of these prisoners sent to the devastated islands of colonized Australia.

19 Crimes Banished Dark Red

Dark red wine, aroma of forest fruit syrup, taste with notes of heart cherries, plum jam, and a lightly spiced long finish. On the label is the convict James Wilson.
Although his early life is shrouded in mystery, James Wilson's time in Australia is immortalized in his letter 'A Voice from the Tomb', which details the experience of a penal colony. It was this letter that proved instrumental in setting the great 'Catalpa rescue' in motion. In 1874, he secretly sent a letter to New York journalist John Devoy, who began working on organizing the rescue of convicts from Australia. Using donations from Irish-Americans, John Boyle O'Reilly, an escapee from Fremantle (see Red wine), then living in Boston, bought the merchant ship Catalpa and sailed it into international waters off Rockingham in Western Australia. On April 17, 1876, at 8:30 AM, Wilson and five other Fenians working behind prison walls were boarded onto a whaling ship sent by O'Reilly. They were then transported to America on the Catalpa.

19 Crimes Snoop Cali Red Wine

Dark purple wine is characterized by the aroma of dark fruit, American oak, and vanilla. Its full body and the taste of blue and dark fruit from the Petit Syrah variety are complemented by the taste of candied fruit from the Zinfandel variety.
